Music for different crowds, different nationalities and different cultures.
It's important to understand that a good DJ is not some one that sits behind a set of turntables, CDs, or a laptop Computer and presses the play button, it takes years of serious understanding on how people's brain and behavior work.
A lot of the times people ask what does it feel like to be a successful DJ.
Here is the truth, being a successful DJ took years it didn't happen overnight and in some cases I was even contemplating stopping DJing completely.
My passion for DJing started when I was about 15 years old I went to one of those under 18 dance parties, it was the first time I had encounter with a DJ that had laser beams, lights and some of the best 90s music I have ever heard. I still remember this day like it was yesterday, more importantly the venture that I took on that night and the day after I was introduced to that DJ that night.
After that night, I decided that I wanted to become a DJ and progress it to be a full time job releasing Music CD’s.
After 2 Years of practicing day and night knocking on all the doors of every Greek night club and Greek venue that had live music I continued to get rejected and there was nothing that I could do to even get in the door. I even tried offering my services for free.
After a further 2 years, I started to change my approach I went to all the top Djs and promoters in Australia to assist me and give me a few pointers or maybe they could employ me under their wings, funny enough no one gave me the opportunity. More rejection and it was looking even more disappointing.
I came across a person who taught me a very big lesson in life and that was marketing. They said to me it's all about the perception and marketing, so I gave it a go. I knew I had great music because I played music from the heart making music sound different. Introducing Greek and European beats into English songs and people from all over Australia had never heard music like this before.
After several years of DJing at birthday parties, christenings, functions, school discos and school festivals. I started to get a name for myself.
I use to go overseas a lot for my full time Electronic Security Job where I would spend one to two weeks overseas. I used to like going out, always having a chat with the DJs behind the decks and after having a chat with them they would always ask if I would like to DJ a couple of songs and I would always accept the offer. Before you knew it, a person which was the manager from the clubs, pubs that I visiting walked over and said would you like to DJ over the next couple of days / week especially knowing that I was from Australia.
It’s like Australian DJs where special for some reason. So, the more traveling I did the more opportunities were opening for me.
After understanding more about world music, I decided when I come back to Australia I would incorporate world music, remix and megamix my own music to make it sound like music that I had heard from all over the world.
Playing this style of music opened up opportunities in Greek Taverna’s which was the big thing like Mykonos On Crown, Mykonos on Pitt and Mykonos in Parramatta. I also worked in several other venues like Anesi, (Sex Bar) Brighton, and The Mediterranean Sydney and many more.
It’s amazing because the more that Djs and Promoters didn't want me playing in Australian large events and clubs, I pushed harder, marketing myself all over the internet, Facebook, Myspace and Youtube before you knew it festivals and interstate promoters were calling me.
Still today I DJ all kinds of events because I do it for the love and passion that I have for music. Music has a very powerful effect on many people. I realized after several years of playing and people from all around the world would email me asking If I could tour or come to their Country and play music.
